Gr 10 Cyber Security Career Program

Gr. 10 Applications for the new Cybersecurity Careers Program

(full program officially launches February 2021)
The Abbotsford School District has partnered with Palo Alto Networks to train students in Cybersecurity.  The full program officially launches in February 2021.  Students take 4 courses (16 credits) over two years. In second semester of Grade 11, students take Cyber Literacy and CIS 11 (Palo Alto 1 & 2). In the first semester of Grade 12, students take CIS 12 (Palo Alto 3) and UFV CIS190, earning both high school graduation credits and University of the Fraser Valley credits. Upon completion of the 2 year program, students may choose to write an industry recognized certification exam (Palo Alto Networks Certified Cybersecurity Associate).   In conjunction with an Information Technology Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Computer Sciences, Graphic Design, Business, or Management, students have the opportunity for employment in Information Security, which forecasts a global shortage of 3.5 million cyber security professionals by 2021 and in Canada alone we are estimated to require 8,000 by 2022.
To ensure the best possible Grade 10 candidates get into one of the limited spots in the launch of this program starting in February 2021, there is a deadline of May 1st, 2020 for priority placement. All interested students are encouraged to have their application to the Careers department on or before May 1.  After May 1, students will be placed on a waiting list.
Successful applicants to the program will continue in their full-time studies at ASIA throughout Grades 11 and 12, with a support block being offered in each of the two semesters to allow them to work on the Cybersecurity courses, with on-line and in-person course support offered by the Cybersecurity District Careers program teacher, Mr. Todd Diakow.
