Arts Integrated Program Information Night - Middle/Secondary

January 22 | 6:30 pm | ASIA Sumas Mountain Middle/Secondary - 36232 Lower Sumas Mountain Road

The Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts, Sumas Mountain Campus offers an Arts Integrated Program for students in Grades 6–12. Families across the Abbotsford School District are invited to learn more at our Program Information Night on January 22 at 6:30 pm.

This is a district program open to all students in the Abbotsford District, no matter what your catchment.  Students complete the full BC curriculum while learning and demonstrating their learning through the arts. Artistic processes are used as tools for thinking, inquiry, communication, and assessment across all subject areas.

What arts integration looks like at ASIA Sumas Mountain

Arts integration means students learn academic concepts through the arts as well as taking separate classes that strengthen the skills of our artists. Creative work is embedded into daily learning and used to deepen understanding.

Students:

  • Learn through movement, drama, visual art, music, media, and design.
  • Engage in collaborative and inquiry‑based projects.
  • Apply creative thinking across core subjects.
  • Share learning through performances, exhibitions, and presentations throughout the year.

Middle school (Grades 6–8)

Middle school students participate in all art forms as part of the program including dance, drama, music, visual arts and digital media arts. This broad exposure supports skill development, confidence, and creative risk‑taking.

Learning experiences in Grades 6–8 include:

  • Integrated arts projects across subjects.
  • Regular opportunities to perform or present learning.
  • Participate in performances and exhibitions throughout the year.
  • Projects throughout the year that demonstrate growth and understanding.

Secondary school (Grades 9–12)

Secondary students continue learning through the arts in academic classes while gaining choice and specialization on elective art classes.

Students:

  • Select art elective courses based on interest and strength.
  • Apply artistic processes to academic classes through arts integration.
  • Participate in performances and exhibitions throughout the year.
  • Complete projects throughout the year that show skill development and understanding.
