Dear 2026 Grads!

We are coming to the very exciting time of Convocation!

Some things for you to be aware of and prepare for Friday.

MOST IMPORTANT: Convocation is on Friday, June 12th at the Abbotsford Arts Centre, 2329 Crescent Way, with ceremonies starting promptly at 6:00pm. 

We will have a run through of the processional and what to expect on Wednesday, June 10th at 1:30pm. Anyone who can make it, please do so we can get your ready for your big day. 

To prepare for convocation, this is what you need to know

  1. You now have your cap, gown and tassel (yay) and YES you can decorate your cap BUT it must still be school appropriate. You are representing ASIA Sumas and your creativity matters, but so does decorum. If you are questioning what you are going to decorate your cap with, check with Mrs. Bennett or Mrs. Wilms first.
  2. Grads need to arrive at the Arts Centre by 5:30pm. If you want pictures with your V-Stole (the piece that goes around your neck) you can pick it up at 5pm at the theatre. We need to make sure you are read to go for the processional (walking into the theatre). Report to the front doors where a staff member will be there to direct you to the green room. (use the washroom before please and NO GUM)
  3. Doors open on Friday at 5:30pm for parents and friends. Tickets are not needed; we have over 700 seats for all of your loved ones.
  4. You may want to arrive early to take some photos outside with your co-grads before the ceremony, you will be looking your best at that time.
  5. After, you must return your V-stole to Mrs. Beckett before leaving the theatre. We will not be able to let you borrow that piece for photos after, so take care of that before. I know it sucks but we have had bad luck with losing them in the past and they are expensive not to mention impossible to replace.

Things to make sure you have completed BEFORE convocation

  • All student fees, busing, lost books and outstanding instrument fees are paid
  • Mrs. Bennett has your quote, your future plans and a toddler picture
  • Make sure you iron your gown, or ask nicely for someone to do it for you! 
  • Consider what you are wearing underneath the gown. This is a formal affair, dress nicely and school appropriate. This is a great time to wear those fancy shoes one more time, just as long as you can walk in them!
  • Do not lose or forget your cap/gown/tassel we do not have extras

Things to make sure you have completed BEFORE leaving the school 

  • Celebrate your teachers at ASIA. Make a point of thanking those who have been in your corner.
  • Consider visiting your elementary school. They are still in session until June 25th. If there is a group of you who want to say hello/thank you, call ahead to the school and make arrangements to visit.
  • June 25th is our awards morning. We would love to see you one more time and encourage you to wear your prom outfit again.
